Manners disappeared with the liberalization of the school system along with respect and consideration for others and the acceptance by British society in general that aggressive, unruly behaviour is acceptable.

Manners do exist but as each generational phase comes to an end a little bit of humanity departs with.

Maybe I'm lucky - the vast majority of people I bump into in my day to day life are perfectly polite and decent. Kids included.

i remember, as a wee lad at cub scouts, we were in a circle saying the last prayer before home time. there a pause, someone let out an absolute ripper. we all waited until the prayer had finished before pissing ourselves laughing.

now that's pretty good restraint from a bunch of 9 year olds…

That IS impressive. We had a guy at Cubs whose nickname was "Quickbrew", because he was constantly brewing them up and letting them out

If someone does that, I stick my boot out so the door closes on it with a "clunk", then clutch my nose and yell. Usually, the person turns round and apologises.

Good tip, James - I may give that a try tomorrow

That's true. Being one of the "kids" still I am often branded in with the bad lot that everyone hears reported about, but 99.9% of kids at my college are all fine and have manners etc.

My fiancee and i were going out to her works xmas party and we went to her friends house to meet her friend and partner. At the door met friend, shook hands, peck on the cheek ,walked into living room ,introduced to "steve" who was sitting down, before i could walk across the room hand outstretched, "steve" made a gun out of his index finger and thumb pulled the trigger and made a clicking noise as a greeting:ohmy: !
At party ,thankfully met some normal people and had a great time, but avoided "steve" all night.
My girls friend was very embarassed
I found that very disrespectful and what a first impression to make!

I had the misfortune of being called a homophobe for asking two lads who were snogging in a stairwell to 'get a room'.
