You bunch of spoilsports! I was looking forward to this and it's only down the road. ;) I'd assumed it was for charity too but you're right, no mention of it at all on the site. Not great!

Your suggestions of Ribble and a ride to Jodrell sound far more appealing both scenery wise and on the pocket

If welcome, I'd love to tag along on any Jodrell rides. Very fond of the place!

Oops! What have I done. Sorry Fossy

Might be tempted despite the cost ( hopefully it will keep the skyride types away)
never doing the skyride again, too many " family cyclists" wobbling all over the road

Never seen more than a small handfull of people cycling to the skyride,
I suspect the majority drive there with the bikes on the roof,
do the ride then put the bike back in the garage till next year

2 Adults and 2 Kids comes the the best part of £70, that is going to be one very empty road.
I will await the Sky ride and do the same thing for free thanks.
And just for Pennine Paul i will tell my four year old we can not go in the car and that she will have to cycle the 30 mile round trip plus the event , and that just because she is four is no excuse for wobbling and to get into the chain gang head down and no smiling as its not fun or get off the road.

Price now dropped to £10 apparently, a significant price drop, I wonder if the event was looking to be a spectacular attendance fail...
I can't imagine there will be any actual cyclists at this event at all, why on earth would you choose this over a few hours in the lanes?

Found in the Yorkshire hills ...
At £10 this is a bit more appealing for the 52 miler.

I've done on of the 'Great Run' events (the Great Student Run in Leeds) and it was quite well organised.

It'll be a 3-way toss up on the Dales Grimpeur/Richmond Cyclosportive (both Sat 2nd) or this. I think this'll lose out.

Without bus drivers trying to kill you though, that's the, er, usp, as the marketing types say.
If the only choice was between riding round Manchester for nothing and getting hit by a bus OR paying to ride round Manchester and not getting hit by a bus, they might be onto something, but ... given that there is also the option of spending the money on a trip to Cheshire/the Peak District/Forest of Bowland and not getting hit by a bus, I don't think that they are!

Like I said, this isn't an event for people who are already cyclists. Anyone who is known to their mates as a cyclist, talks about cycling in their sleep, plans holidays around cycling, I doubt will be seen at this event.
