Just learning that there is currently no power in the out patients department of a hospital in my area. This is an area not traditionally supported by a generator for anything more than minimal lighting. No details currently on the cause or a timescale to fix but apparently a generator is on route to allow some services to continue tomorrow.

It makes you wonder if they ever tested the system. Power cut or not, we used to run off the generator for an afternoon every once in a while just to make sure it was all working. It's a bit like having fire drills, you don't wait until you need them before you test them.
One place I worked we tested the generators after some building work.

For some reason the work had caused the generator exhaust to go somewhere it shouldn't be and triggered all the fire alarms. Ooops.

So we had a bonus fire drill too. Still, at least it was just a test, and that's what tests are for.
