Hi guys,

Has anyone ever heard of or taken part in this? Or, coincidentally, is anyone doing it this year?

It takes place on Sunday 4th September 2011 and starts from Wythenshawe Park in South Manchester. Have a look at the link for it - Manchester 100.

Anyway, does anyone have any training tips for completing this without too many near death experiences. I currently cycle work everyday, which is about 17 miles round trip and then do a ride on my days off, although I have only actually done 25 miles as my longest ride thus far. I've been cycling for approximately 12 months now with about 2 months off at the end of last year when I had by bike nicked

.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Hi Paul, the topic has been discussed a couple of times previously, you could try these links for starters from 2010 http://www.cyclechat..._manchester+100 and this blog http://www.emmarush.com/2009/09/07/manchester-100/

Hope these are of help.

Yes ridden it twice.

Fairly flat (3000 ft of climbing over 100 miles) - Quick course, done both in a smidge over 5 hours. If you are commuting every day, you'll have much more base fitness than alot that ride it. You just need to get in a few 60 or so miles rides before.

I did it last year and it was my first century ride. Didn't have the greatest ride if I'm honest (4 punctures really didn't help!) but would definately do it again.

As stated, your base fitness should be pretty good, just add a few long rides to this and you'll be fine

Hope to do it this year - my shoulder should be healed better then, and it's flat.
Yes, it's flat. Flat, apart from about 800 metres of climbing that is! ;)

It's flat compared to hilly rides but there are numerous little hills dotted about the route. Only fit people think it's flat.

I thought it was moderately hilly every year I did it except for the year I was skinny and fit, when I sprinted up every hill and wondered why I'd struggled on them in earlier years.

The next time I rode the event, I was fat again and the hills had mysteriously reappeared!

I reckon there was a bloke used to post on here then suddenly dissapeared to pastures greener who could have calculated the percentage ratios of waistline measurement to elevation climbed on a ride. (I know the feeling BTW) remember??

 I know Jimbos style of posting didnt go well with everyone but I learnt quite a bit from him on various subjects (mostly involving numbers). Anyway, sorry to OP for Fred Drift.

Wait

I thought it was flat bar one bit

Does that mean I'm " cyclist fit" now ???

I've done it the last 2 years in a row

Did you do the 100 km or the 100 miles? If it was the 100 km, you missed some of the bigger hills in the bit you didn't do? ;)

Compare the profiles ...

As you can see - the routes are definitely not flat but not mega-hilly either if you check the altitude scales.

Where has he gone to ? ( sorry op)
I think he got a lifetime ban for making threats to someone!

Yeah I liked Jimbo even though he riled up the odd forumite he added some extra dimension to read. Out of curiosity to put it to bed, what threats would they be to warrant a lifetime ban?

There's a small crowd of people from my work doing the Manchester 100km route this year, which I'll probably join them on. Will be a mixture of experienced riders and cyclists new to riding this year. Should be a good day out

I'll look it up. Here you go ...

Jimbo was banned months ago, for basically threatening one of the mods via PM ("I know where you commute and you'd better watch your back", or words to that effect).
