I'm a Man of Kent, born on Thanet. The Men of Kent were the only lot to face down William the Conqueror, and to this day if you're a mere Kentish man you're a second class citizen in the eyes of some locals.
My favourite area is actually a wee bit South. I love the Romney Marsh, but in particular I find the Dungeness headland absolutely fascinating. It's like a different planet down there. It's a relatively young landscape too, being built up by deposits dropped by local sea currents. The Brittania Inn is my favourite pub, and they're very dog friendly if you have a pooch - they keep a jar of dog biscuits on the bar for our 4 legged chums.
The Romney, Hythe and a Duymchurch light railway is an enchanting, if slightly pricy, journey and is unique as a light railway that is fully working - people commute on it, kids catch the train to school, proper scheduled services.
