Make them pay road tax then, like motorists do!!

Another anti-cycling article in the People today, which I found when reading this rag at my cafe stop today.

People article

Very lazy and snidy journalism. Is pavement cycling such a problem anywhere? It does annoy me, but I rarely see it.

I am not sure if I am member of the Cycling Liberation Army, because I wear lycra! and who has asked that 1 lane of dual carriageways should be turned over to cyclists.

There don't appear to be any comments on the website. Maybe the People readership are less IT literate than the Daily Mail readership.

I just ignore this stuff. When a lazy journalist can't think of anything original to write in their weekly column they just fall back on the old standards, bashing cyclists, people who park in the wrong bays at supermarkets, the unemployed, electric buggy users... you know, the easy targets.

Vehicle Excise Duty is paid directly into central government revenues and hasn't been used to directly fund roads since 1937.

All taxpayers, cyclists included, fund roads.

I note the 'journo' responsible for this bottom-feeder drivel is called Nigel. Don't know why that strikes me as apt, but it does.

They wear pointy crash helmets which look as though a model of the Starship Enterprise has landed on their head.

How many cyclists do you see in aero/time-trial helmets? At least that's what it sounds like he's referring to!

This is 'shock jock' opinion based journalism. Nothing to do with fact or research. It's about generating response. Personally, I think it's to do with advertising revenues etc. Lazy, turgid and shoddy.

It really is time that people who write for a living learned to do a little research if they want to call it journalism. While we are at it we should make motorist pay the full price of using the roads, that way the rest of us could get a tax rebate!

funny thing is... anyone on a bike is a cyclist.. we cant be categorized by wearing Lycra.. or wearing a helmet and not. anyone from 3-300 years old, and I dont know of any Lycra clad race bike nutters who would risk their bikes on a pavement, going up and down curbs and over paving stones... just the though of my beautiful cannondale rattling like that pains me!
You'll find its young kids and people who are too drunk to drive that ride the pavements!
few of us are terrifyingly muscle bound.. maybe my legs, but my upper body is just a regular fit looking torso.
So every time a person buys a push bike they need insurance, tax, m.o.t, cycle license, speedometer.

What a tosser!
