I've had my bike for a bit over 1 year now and I need to do some maintenance on it. my bike is BTwin alur 700 and I need to replace the casette on it.
It currently has some 10 speed tiagra. The rest of the shifting stuff is shimano 105. The chainset is some BTwin own one. The ratio is 50/34.
Can I replace the casette with an ultegra or 105 6700 10 speed One ?

Yes.

If the 105 or Ultegra cassette has the same number of teeth on the biggest sprocket - it should be a straight swap.

Depending on how many miles you have on your chain you may have to replace that too, try it and see how smooth your changes are.

If the replacement cassette has a different number of teeth on the biggest sprocket, you may have to change chain length/ rear mech to cater for it.

Thank you for advice. I am looking at keeping the same format, just going for a higher spec casette and a new chain as well.
I went to a bike shop yesterday and they told me they both need replacing:sad:. I am thinking to order the components online as is much cheaper.

Can you swap them yourself (or get a mate to do it) it may work out as cheap to get the shop to do it if they're gonna charge you to fit them, often when I've changed a cassette the shop has swapped it over 'buckshee'

There is only a £4 difference between 105 and tiagra on chain reaction so I might as well go with the 105 one.
I have done 1600 miles on the bike. But the gear shifting is horrible ( it has been badly set up - decathlon ).
Thanks a lot for all your suggestions.

OP - if the cassette needs replacing (why do you think this? - it's only done 1600 miles, I'd expect double if you've looked after it), it's entirely sensible to fit a new chain. Then the early wear on a new cassette from a part extended (with use) chain is avoided. I too would stick to a Tiagra cassette and better than equivalent KMC chain (£16 for chain). What do you think you're gaining by paying the extra £4? Lighter (negligible)? Better shifts (most unlikely)? Longer lasting (no)? '105' logo visible (no)?

You may find this thread started by @EnPassant 11 days ago Replacing-worn-10-speed-105-drivetrain and the advice therein useful (eg my Post #4 et seq), relating to how easy this is to do yourself. Perhaps @EnPassant can tell you how it went.

Why are you blaming Decathlon? You've had the bike a year and you imply you have not sought to get the gears indexed correctly.

If you looked after the chain, its reasonable to replace that at 1600 miles, but I would be looking for 3/4 chain replacements before the cassette needed replacing. I would spend £6 for a chain measuring tool, check your chain for wear, before jumping on and replacing that and the cassette. At the LBS you will probably be paying retail for the parts they will use, prices far removed from those you pay online.

I did go to an Evans shop and the guy there measured the chain wear and is over 0.75.
I could have done a better job at looking after it, I admit.
he said the components may have been wearing out so quickly due to a poor setup. I am definitely not an expert. Changing gears feels really rough sometimes. It makes a nasty noise.

Well, I went to the shop about 10 times because of some noise I was getting. Then I managed to adjust myself a bit and it was running ok. So I've been quite lazy since. . My commute was only 3.5 miles so I wasn't that bothered.
