I've always been a tall, curvy girl
At the moment I'm carrying a shedload of extra weight due to my illness/inactivity.
I used to love my lycra cycling tights as they were just so comfortable but now I feel very self-conscious about wearing them until I've lost weight.

What's the alternative?

Wear what you like and feel comfortable in. If you want to wear the tights if they have a pad, put something over the top like a pair of baggies. You don't need to dress/look like Laura Trott to ride a bike

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
I just wear jogging bottoms, tee shirt and sweatshirt. If I get too hot I take the sweatshirt off and tie it around my waist.

Having a bit of a belly* myself, I sympathise. I tried wearing the baggies but they're just not comfortable on the bike and look ridiculous off it. Then I had the realisation that Lycra looks fine when you're on the bike and you fly by people too quickly for them to see anyway. Granted, Lycra looks ludicrous stretched over wobbly bits when you're walking around therefore I tend to only get off the bike when I'm putting it back in the shed. At the end of the day though, who cares?

* I prefer to think of it as the balcony overlooking the amusement park. ^_^

If I'm doing a ride then picking mini me up from school I wear the padded shorts under trackies just for decency at the school gates if I'm doing a full circuit then sorry peddled shorts and let it all hang out

Yes I can, Yes I am, Yes I did...Repeat.
I've been there myself:blush:...but if it helps at all when i see anybody on a bicycle no matter what 'shape' my thoughts are of admiration and respect, even more so for overweight people (erm..like me lol!) trying to lose weight:becool::thumbsup::bravo:

just go for it and hang the rest:bicycle::bicycle::bicycle:

I'm hardly svelte myself and don't look particularly fetching in lycra. Quite frankly though I've reached a point where I'm not bothered. I am losing weight, getting fitter and taking cycling more seriously. Comfort is my first concern so I'm wearing what I feel is best.
It took a while to reach this point and I hope you reach this point soon. Sounds corny but it's what's inside that counts
