Is that not simply 'snobbery'?

Surely labelling it 'lower middle class' is snobbery in itself?

Why don't you move the sign 3/4mile down the road in the middle of the night, and hey preston your house has doubled in value (going by current prices)

So if you did a bit of nifty footwork with the road signs in the night you'd make 30k, literally, overnight ?

Money in the bank - go for it.

It's the same everywhere mate.

You know Glasgow a bit. There are a few that make me laugh.

One nice area in the city centre is called The Merchant City and there's a place called Dennistoun next to it roughly. Agents are now marketing parts of Dennistoun as Merchant City North

Another is a nice place called Carmmunock. The shoot hole next to it is called Castlemilk. Parts of it now are getting called Lower Carmmunock :laugh:

I live 1.5 miles South of Surbiton Station. The area is called Tolworth. This in Kingston upon Thames ( a London Borough recently described as being in the shape of a flaccid penis by a Travel Guide )

¾ mile North of me the houses are about 30k more expensive then mine, even though they are exactly the same. I put it down to the fact that they were closer to the Station. But I don’t mind the extra 15 min stroll to the Station.

However, the residents ¾ mile North of me are in uproar as their street signs now say “Tolworth” instead of “Surbiton”. Letters have been written in anger to the local press:

“I chose to live in Surbiton. My house is worth 30k more because I live in Surbiton. People from Tolworth aspire to live in Surbiton. (etc)”

I don’t aspire to live ¾ mile further up the road in exactly the same type of house and area and exactly the same school catchment areas simply so that I can say I live in Surbiton!

Lower middle-class snobbery, eh?

Barnet,
I have a bit of a problem with the labeling of of people in areas of the country. You may live in Tolworth, but if it has always been Tolworth then so be it. The people who write into local news papers complaining about this or that are generaly a bit sad as they have no focus to their lives, apart from conplaining about various things.

He doesn't need to if the whole area is going to become Tollworth but his price may only rise by 15K

The misses (before she was the misses) used to live in Tolworth... that's what I said anyway, it used to annoy the hell out of her. The postcode was Surbiton but it was a few hundred metres outside of Tolworth and a bus ride to Surbiton. Personally, I didn't care either way, it was dull dull dull whatever you called it.

As for the lower middle classes... splitters!
