If the muscles are not strong enough (a very common issue), it can be sorted with simple exercises at home. More serious issues with the spine or nerves in the lower back region, you should consult with your doctor before attempting any remedies.
Can you not get physio referral from your GP? I'd suggest looking at your saddle height and comfort as that can affect the back. I suffer from lower back pain (L3-L4) and found lowering my saddle height helped, as it's less of a stretch.
