When at work it gets easier, probably due to me moving all the time, crouching down, standing up,stretching up high, all manner of positions due to the nature of my job.But mornings are always poor, especially getting out of bed.

Cycling uses a very specific muscle group, the strengthening of these muscles while doing nothing to strengthen opposing or supporting muscles creates an imbalance that will one day lead to injury or discomfort. With the strengthening comes tightness so it is not uncommon for a cyclist to have tight strong muscles that contrast greatly with weaker looser muscles, this can occur within a leg or between legs and torso for instance. It is probably an imbalance that has created the OP's problem and it is common knowledge that tight hamstrings will put a back out. I think it is more important to warm up than stretch before a ride and carefully stretch after and to strengthen muscles around rhe hips.

Maybe time to get a different mattress.

Just steer clear of tempur according to my physio if back issues. Need a proper firm base. Was told same by consultant who operated on my back

I have a half pocket sprung half memory foam mattress.I hate full memory foam so that was the better option.Firm yet comfortable.

My family have a place you can visit in Leigh. They work with various sports personalities from RL players, to boxers to UFC fighters.
When I've had problems in the past they've been unbelievable!

Ask for Austin or Adam and say Lee Wood sent you. You wont regret it, no matter who you've been to before.

I have a similar issue on my left hand side which my physio has identified as sacro-iliac (SIJ) pain (v common among cyclists, mine is compounded by a dodgy left leg and knee). Googling should find you appropriate back stretches, but a physio session or two could,be of benefit. I have a whole raft of stretches for my many ails!

I have had similar sacro-iliac problems, and richly rewarded both physios and chiropractors over many years (interestingly the treatment was the same stretch with both, but the chiro added a final push and crack, whereas the physio just held the position).

I then read, on here, the suggestion to try the following stretch at the first sign of symptoms; go into a touch the toes type pose, reach down as far is comfortable, don't force it, then exhale and relax further into the stretch, hold for a few seconds breathing normally, then repeat extending further down on each exhalation until you have been in the pose for at least thirty seconds. You will feel tight spots but it should not be painful, just relax and let your body slump into the pose under your body weight rather than trying to stretch down. I repeat this twice a day over three or four days and magically the symptoms disappear. Have not been back to the physio since (touch wood).
