Trying to find one that just lifts the back wheel off the ground. There's a Topeak that fits onto the skewers, but not in stock any more and iffy reviews. Then about £70 of Minoura, that just looks like a trainer, with the functioning bits missing. Also fits on the skewers.

Anyone seen anything worth having ? Or might attempt to fettle one together.

Found this on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RMG-Bike-...ccessories&hash=item3f07c6db35#ht_6895wt_1037

It appears to be made of plastic, so I'm not sure how sturdy it would be.. Although it is cheap.

Thanks I think that Revolution one will do for what I need it for.
I tried my mates skewer-fixing one, like that ebay one, but its a bit unstable with a heavy bike.

I'd suspect that the Revolution will be unstable with a heavy bike too.
I've got a similar Minoura display stand, and that is despite having longer legs on the bike side.

I ended up building my own full bike stand. It's basically a "U" shape made of some heavy duty wood. The closed end of the U gets clamped into a large bench mounted vice, and open end of the U sticks out to hook under the bikes top tube. Kind of like having the bike hanging off a fork lift truck.

It works really well, and best of all, cost me nothing as it was made of materials I already had.

Funnily enough I had thought of making one, as also have a garage full of metal poles, wood, square section pipe etc. Many of those on sale have a vertical pole and feet, but no bracing, so not surprised they wobble around, which is quite annoying. I borrowed a friends and it was all over the place.

Need an 'A' frame that spreads and then swings out to the ground to give a tent shape.
Or perhaps I should just budget for £80+

That Revolution one certainly appears to be the Draper 'heavy duty' bike stand.(the 'heavy duty' miss-terminology certainly irritates the Amazon reviewers )
It does a decent job and my only complaint is that you can't use it for the front wheel.

I bought mine from Amazon when it was £14 deld. About the right price considering there is so little to it.

+1, I've also got a minoura and a proper stand. The other big difference the small stands of that type don't let you spin the wheels and makes things like adjusting the gears/ brakes/ mudguards etc a lot harder.

As it doesn't cost much I think I'll get that Revolution one and 'adapt' it if necessary with a brace of some sort. It would probably cost that just to track down the clamps, supports, twiddly knob etc. separately. Got a bigger heavy one that's great for the garage, but need a reasonably portable one as well.

Most works takes place on the back wheel.

Because the wheel is only inches off the ground the thing is impressively sturdy.
Main use for me is in adjusting gears and truing the wheel.

That half price offer I'm sure is only temporary and I consider mine has gone slightly overpriced now on Amazon.

Thanks for suggestions.

I've ordered one of those Revolutions now - TheSandwichMonster posted a link above and I've got it for £9-99. If it needs more stability, looks like I can get some pipe and elongate the horizontal legs.

I made this but never got it finished properly (used bungee strap to hold bike in place and block to hold BB could do with a little tweaking for better fit) as bought the Lidl repair stand.
