So I'm doing my usual 25mile lunchtime ride (when I'm working from home that is) and it's a lovely hot day. Near the end I'm just cruising along at 22mph when this flash git on a spec'd out Giant come howling past yelling at me to "get a move on you lazy sod". Now I'm not light weight, but this dude's heavier than me, so I thought "we'll see shall we". About 1/2 mile in the distance is a short hill (5-7% no more than that), so I carry on at my current pace and about 1/3 of the way up this guy is huffin and puffin. So I drop the hammer and fly up the hill in 4th out of the saddle and scream past him, saying "not so fast now are we" and leave him for dust.
I'm sure he thought I 'd be an easy scalp, and I usually don't mind people using me as a target, but why the silly comment? Anyway I had the last laugh, so maybe next time he will think twice.

Guy was an idiot. If I meet another cyclist I tend to draft them for a bit before swinging in front and attempting a pace that will let them draft me.

It's a much more enjoyable ride if you can meet another cyclist and work together.

Not having been there, I don't know, but was if just having a bit of fun? Or did he mistake you for someone he knew?

Maybe he had a sense of humour, something that is often missing.

One thing that gets me is why you guys that can coast at 22 or 25 mph do not race or do you? As you could certainly do well in local club level rides.

Perhaps they are not interested in racing.

I can do a constant 22 or more on a flat without much trouble. I tend to average 18 over the whole ride though, which doesn't seem fast enough to race in my head.

Plus, I wear t-shirt and baggies!
