Simoncc, I'm not working for the council, its St Nicks they started recycling 10 years, before the council were made to. Its a charity.

It's a charity working 'on behalf of York City Council'. You are effectively on the public payroll with an easy job. Sit tight. Times are hard.

I would but having a poor memory for facts and figures, being dyslexic, only good at practical tasks and hating extremely cheeky and rude children puts a stop to all that. Though I do find it easy to pass on skills that I have learned in conservation. I can teach people how to hedge lay, coppice's and pollard
trees.

Once a term with have an activities day at the school I work in. Few months ago someone from the local something or other preservation society came and made a willow sculpture with the children and prior to that we had a shelter made of twigs put on the school field. The children thoroughly enjoy doing things like that and are usually well behaved as it is more fun that curriculum stuff. Also a lot of schools now have environmental areas which they use educationally with children and, need someone to do general maintenance with them. Why not ask if you can use your extra time in the community doing related things. If anyone out there wants to look after our environmental area just let me know - I'm in Surrey

Why would they employ someone with four years experience of being a Countryside Ranger, on the promise that I would help with the reserve and not use my skills.

Anyway there is a groundskeepers job going at the retreat, so will apply for that.

Yes, I know. I've been there. If you read the website you'll see that the charity is paid by York City Council to run recycling services to parts of York. Effectively you work for the council, you are not a charity worker dependent on voluntary donations from the public. You've got an undemanding council style job and your wages come from the council coffers. Sounds like a secure arrangement to me. Unless you can get something better with your experience and qualifications you'd do best to sit tight.

Er my wages come from the COB, not the council. We may get some contributions such as land tax credits from the council for collecting plastic and steal cans, saving them from land fill. The glass, paper and foil are sold to other companies.

St Nicks started recycling way before the council, we do curbside recycling for 5000 houses. We hate the council because they see our zero emissions collection vehicles as a joke. (Trikes and electric vehicle). We refused to wear the same uniform as the council and didn't go out on strike.

We are not the council

I've always wondered how an electric vehicle can be described as zero-emissions....

Is it linked to a magic power station?

Run around naked and screaming with some pants on your head a couple of times when you get back.....they'll soon think you're a looney and will let you do what you want:biggrin:

Does that help at all? Hhmmm?

Your employer obviously doesn't hate the council enough not to enter a service agreement to do recyling work on its behalf does it? Whichever way you look at it, the money you earn starts off in the pockets of council tax payers and ends up in your pocket via the city council and then your charity.

The council isn't going to go bust and you've got an undemanding job that depends on tax money, not the money of customers who can take their custom elsewhere or stop buying your product if they so choose. Sit tight. Just how many other jobs are there out there? And you won't find many jobs in the private sector that pay a day's wages for half a day's work.
