Hi every one just joined today and wondering about a road bike

At present I've a Specialized Rockhopper SL Pro MTB with Maxxis Ardent 26 x 2.25
I'm 48 and 5 foot 10 and weigh 15 stone 7 pound (OCHHH)

I'm trying to get fit again as 3 years ago I was 13 stone

I have just started running again a week ago and am doing 4 mile run every day then hopping on my bike and doing Various distances ...Yesterday 16 mile with Mimi my 11 year old we did that in 1 hour 15 and Today me 20 odd mile in 1 hour 30. Half trail half road.

I love my bike enjoy riding and HATE running so looking to do more cycling......so poss get a Road Bike ???

First I'm a wide guy big top and as you can see weigh some .......does it matter (most guys I see on road bikes seam skinny/slim build)

I have been looking at ....
Specialized Allez Sport
Specialized Tarmac
Specialized Roubaix

Is there any particular one that would be better for a beginner or of those any particular model from the range of any of those bikes ?

The allez and Tarmac are racier (alu and carbon respectively), the roubaix more relaxed. Might be more comfortable for a beginner coming from mountain bikes

Does it have to be a specialized? You'll likely find you get better components for the same cash from other brands. Especially if happy with last years model

Go to a few shops and try out some bikes you like the look of

You are by no means too heavy for a road bike

Do you want to stick to trail riding? If so, you could also look at a CX or adventure bike. The diverge is specialized model

If you are big and used to MTB style, then wider tyres will protect the rims from abuse. Look for clearance for 28mm. For non-race bikes, mudguard eyelets turn a summer fun bike into a useful all-weather road bike. The more relaxed style of road bike is generally more useful outside of competative rides.

My RockHopper is good bike so that will do nice for trails ....as for sticking to Specialized I sort trust em if you know what I mean (well made good parts) and Yes I know you get more bang for you buck parts wise with other makes (well do on MTB anyway)

Im up there on the MTB bikes but Any advice is good advice chaps as not a clue about road bikes done research in to bikes and the group sets etc But none that tells me anything like what the guys doing it all can and who use the bikes

Of the 3 the Roubaix would be my choice .it is considered a good comfortable bike for long distance rides.

Your weight is no problem as long as you don't go crashing through pot holes on a regular basis. I came from mountain biking to road biking to keep fit over the colder wetter months. The main thing i noticed was rim brakes are very poor compared to hydraulic disc brakes and best to get at least 25mm tyres if the roads are rough by you. My choice for your needs would be a roubaix or synapse style of bike.
