Hi All,

I'm an amateur cyclist who is looking for a new bike that I can use mainly for commuting to work. I've had a mountain bike for the last ten years but that has seen better days. I'll be mainly cycling on roads or designated cycle paths... nothing too muddy! I'd also like the bike to be suitable for fixing a small child seat to the rear of the bike. Will a Hybrid be suitable for this? Or am I best sticking to a mountain bike?

My budget is around £250. Please could you advise me if you have any recommendations for a bike or suggestions of what I should (or should not) be looking for!

Many thanks for your help

a clubmate and his wife take their toddler out in a seat on a mtb with slicks on. they just do half clubruns. their thinking seems to be the fatter tyres are a bit more shock absorbing.

Ive had a child seat on both a hybrid and a tourer. Tourer was a bit more stable, but I put on 38C tyres to help soften the ride.

Eventually got a kiddy trailer for using on a holiday in europe, never used the seat again.

I'm thinking of getting a trailer also! I should mention I'm 6ft 2 and 16 stone. Any particular bike or frame size I should be looking at?!

Quite fancy the claud butler urban 100. Any thoughts? Will this be suitable for a child seat?

Thanks

depends on the child seat. I know the Co Pilot ones use the rack mounts for support, but the cheaper ones clamp directly to the seat tube so just be aware that the child seat mounting type makes a difference and is something to be aware of.

Kona Dew is around for £299 if you can stretch it. I have the deluxe (same but with disc brakes) and use the Hamax Siesta seat with it (£40 from Decathlon) for our 4 year old.
