Did that yesterday, it's a leg burner IMO, I'd just like to tackle a few longer hills.
Nip over to Littleborough, then...

From Littleborough, climb to Blackstone Edge, descend to Mytholmroyd, nip over to Hebden Bridge, Climb Cock Hill (Oxenhope Moor), descend to Oxenhope, nip over to Haworth for a cafe stop, then climb back to Cock Hill, descend to Hebden Bridge, back to Mytholmroyd, tackle England's longest hill (Cragg Vale) to Blackstone Edge, descend to Littleborough - that has about 25 km of long, steady climbing.

... head for home!

Theres quite a few hills around bury, enough to get some training in. You could be worse off and live in east anglia..

I think I've found a decent'un to do tomorrow after College (www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=20846) (Added the rake just for the pain)
I've just taken a look at the route that you linked to - are you riding a mountain bike?

I went up Rooley Moor Road on Saturday - it is part of the Mary Towneley Loop. It's definitely not something that you'd want to do on a road bike! It is a tough climb over broken rock and cobbles and leads round to a rugged post-industrial landscape of disused quarries and pits.

Rooley Moor Road is also known as the Cotton Famine Road.

So something like this: www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=20846 ?

It'll be a good route for a Sunday ride, cheers.

Ah oke, thanks. I've never been up there yet, I was going to one day but got lost, I usually do a similar route but go up Ashford valley instead of going all the way around.

Enjoy the hills! I'm not so fortunate and have to search around for a good climb. Damn I hate Bury.

You are kidding aren't you? Bury is at the threshold of Rossendale valley and you've got the whole of the West Pennines to the north of you with one of Britain's most notorious hillclimbs, Rawson's Raike in Ramsbottom. You've got Holcombe Hill and a whole load of climbs going over the top to Blackburn and Burnley then Pendle Hill, Longridge Fell and even Waddington Fell, as seen in the TOB last week. Then to your east you've got the Pennines and classics like the A58 Littleborough to Halifax road, which you can do on a road bike or an MTB as the two routes are parallel.

Well where I am, there aren't any huge hills, yeah there is Rawsons Rake but that's more of a short leg killing steep climb. I don't think I could climb Holcomb on a road bike due to the road. The one to blackburn, are you on about Grane road?

Yeah, I only found out about it being a dangerous road after I went, doubt I'll be doing it again though.

it is a shame it's a statistically dangerous road because it is a nice road to cycle. i cycled it like you, until i was told about the accidents.

Yeah I was on a group ride when someone told me about it, I was shocked because it seemed like a good road as I was going up it.
