I've got the R451, but the front one is on it's way out. The cable clamp bit will move 3-4mm before braking begins. Seems as though I may of damaged the cable clamping bit tightening it. Less than impressed, but braking has been good with them. Barely been used though!

Looking for alternatives, the Tektro R539 came up. But are they better or worse than those Shimano R451?

I'd buy the R650, but I want black ones and they don't make them.

Theres also the TRP RG957, but they are up to 3x the price of the others! Bit much.

Ah I'm just going to go for the TRPs. Says they are 2.5 leverage ratio... ok to use with Shimano 105 5800 levers?

I'd buy the R650 if they were black, no question.

The R451s have been dissapointing in the fact one has just about broken after barely any use. So can't trust another pair, even though they seem well priced.

So that's it for Shimano's offerings.

See loads of complaints about Tektros in general, then theres a lack or reviews with substance to them for the R539 so not prepared to risk it.

So have gone with the TRPs for £99. Way more than I wanted to pay for some long drop brakes, but a bit stuck for choice really if I want a quality pair in black. So that should be it for the life of the bike.
