I'm lonely and want to meet someone!

sorry boys, not like that

i'd like to fonding someone who lives near me to go cycling.

I live at Kingsteignton in devon. My fella isn't interested in cycling, there are a few cycle clubs around but they's more road racing than just pooteling about.
Company would be nice, any ideas? ( my only thought was to trawl through web sites finding members on the site who live near me, but that sounds a bit desperate )

 Ho Hum

CTC = Cyclists Touring Club. They have local groups all over the country who, amongst, other things organise regular rides of varying lengths.

CTC groups can be variable in my experience. There is certainly a good chance that you could meet some friendly cyclists who you felt comfortable riding other. However CTC groups are sometimes are dominated by people with a very traditionalist view of cyclists - often stereotyped as the beard and sandals brigade.

Another option might be to advertise in your local bike shop.

I'd put an advert in your local post office or supermarket notice board.

I live in a tiny Somerset village of 800 people and didn't realise until recently that 8-10 local cyclists meet every Sunday morning to go for a social/training ride.! just shows there might be other cyclists in your area that are thinking the same thing.

if you were nearer I'd ride with you. I like riding with company but many don't.

I have two very keen cyclists that live in houses either side of me. One is a Doctor who does Olympic distance triathlons the other is a cat 3 racing cyclist. They are both so much fitter than me that I can't ride with either of them. How unlucky is that !

Actually not that uncommon. When I outed myself as a cyclist at a recent social do (bit like coming out as gay, but with poorer dress sense) I found out some of the guys used to race in their youth and one very keen marathon runner had turned to tri's. However none of them wanted to ride with me as my bike isn't flash enough and I might not keep up.

I think this may be a common feeling.... the looking for cycling buddies thing I mean. I had thought about it and looked on Gumtree etc. but nothing suitable. Not too keen on the idea of mass rides with beard n sandals crew nor the flash roadies  Maybe it's just a feeling of unease with meeting lots of new people in one go?

Ideally a nice friendly brunette, 5'5" with a rear thats pleasing on the eye

yes this stupid snobbery thing  I agreed to partner someone locally once through a forum. They claimed they were a novice and unfit like me.
He turned up in assos gear on a top of the range carbon race bike and left me for dead. It was clear he didn't approve of my old steel framed bike

I made my excuses after a few miles and rode alone. Wish people would tell the truth.
