Thanks a lot for the very useful info Pali, that's exactly what I was after.

I will prob get a train to Liverpool St and use the underground from there to get to Richmond.

Train from Waterloo is faster, more frequent, airconditioned, will have some dedicated bicycle spaces-probably near empty Sunday early AM

Bump.

I haven't managed to get a place on this, but a good friend is coming down from deepest, darkest Lincolnshire so I'll be riding with him and doing it anyway. The official route is "only" 37 miles and I'm thinking that the easiest way to the start is going to be riding there from Windsor.

I'll be the fat bastid in the CC buff without an entry number.

Just a warning that Sept 5th is a Boris Biking Event (Skyride). A lot of roads between the city and the west will be closed to cars. The event starts at 9.30 so you are unlikely to clash with cyclists. just ignore the closed signs I guess

I haven't managed to get a place on this,
A friend just asked what I was up to at the weekend, so I showed her the web site for this event. As I was there, I thought I'd give it a try to register for a place and , bizarrely, I was successful. It seems that their "register here and we'll let you know if a place becomes available" wasn't to be relied upon.

Anyway, I'm in. :becool:

Did anyone else do this?

A good route, I passed the front door of 4 different friends along the way although the mapping on the site and the map given out at the start were both distinctly average. Neither were good enough to use them to follow the route, it would have been good to get a better idea of the exact route beforehand so I could tell people I'd be passing.

The hills round Wentworth and Englefield Green had me reaching deep into my endurance reserves, but the payback was the fun to be had flying down Crimp Hill in Old Windsor, especially with the three on roller blades as a target.

The waiting at the start weren't much fun, standing around on Richmond Green in a queue which stretched three times across the green was pretty chilly, but the signposts were good, the marshalls were friendly (I am sure some must have said hello to every one of the 3,500 riders!) and the finish line was only about 5 miles from my house.

The number who completed the course on FS mountain bikes with knobblies fitted was impressive, although those tyres did seem to take their toll after 20-odd miles on the tarmac.

Best of all, although it's not a race, was that I passed about 10 times more people than passed me.
