Going to see my wife's cousin in London. West end debut and she is one of the leads in Kinky Boots at The Adelphi. So we really have to go and see her.

So the problem us where to stay. Don't really want to pay Central London prices, but would like somewhere quite nice for a night away together. We are coming from Birmingham, so West/NW would be better, and on a tube line from Leicester Square / Embankment / Charing Cross would be good.

Thoughts are Ealing, although Bethnal Green looks possible ( but East). Any thoughts?

Budget?

How about somewhere like Richmond, fast trains to Waterloo, stroll across the river to the strand. Nice trip to Kew Gardens during the day or next day?

Probably driving down. Thinking again, we'll be coming from Leicester (dropping the little one off at Granny's). So North would be OK too.

Tis indeed and expensive. Is it a weekend or weekday?

There's a Premier Inn in Richmond which would be in budget more or less for Saturday 29th for example

Going to, but London is a big place, and don't really know where to start.
Anywhere too central with a car & you'll need to pay the congestion charge, and almost certainly for parking as well. Most booking sites will let you put a destination point in & give you distances from that point for each hotel. Worth checking a few of them out & the hotels' own websites, they don't all have the same deals. Bargains can be had if you go far enough in advance. Got a single in the (four star) Radisson Blu Edwardian Grafton (Tottenham Court Road, so very central). for Good Friday, £61 including breakfast...

No congestion charge at the weekend but parking is stupid expensive (although can be free on Sunday and sometimes Saturday Pm)

If I'm down that way I tend to use the airport hotels at Heathrow. There are usually some good deals going, especially at weekends, and there are obviously good transport links to central London. The downside is the tube takes about an hour each way, and the Heathrow Express train is stupidly expensive for such a short journey. Then you have to get from the airport to your hotel. The good old days of complimentary bus transfers are long gone; now it's an independently run hopper bus and they also know how to charge. My solution is to take the bike and cycle in and out of town, but obviously it might not be practical for going to a show with your other half.
