We've just bought a car that you can sleep in the back of. The idea is that we'll carry bikes in the back (I don't like carriers) and when we get to a campsite we'll evict the bikes do that we can sleep there. But in the absence of something secure to lock the bikes to at the campsite, is it possible to lock them to the car in some way? The car's got a tow bar if that helps.

The car will probably have a couple of lashing eyes under each bumper, they are designed to lash the car to a transporter, although some people mistake them for towing hooks - bad move, they rip off.

However, they are attached to the car plenty strongly enough to tether your bikes to.

My Mondeo has two "towing eyes" front and rear I have just checked the car manual to make sure.

Spot the problem with securing your bike(s) to those:

Thanks all. I'll investigate these options.

"I can't believe anyone would leave the bikes outside while you slept in the car. Bad bike owners.
Get a tent and let the bikes have the car."

My OH insists. And she won't let me keep the bike in the bedroom either.

There's always something to lock a bike to...tree, hedge, water tap..

Bikes tend not to get nicked from campsites as a rule.

Tell that to the members of BAD (Blackburn and District) mountain bike club who cable-locked all their bikes to a big tree, in a dip just out of sight of the tents. During the night a van drove into the campsite, the cable was cut and every one of their bikes was stolen.
