Did they have people on full lockdown like today?, genuinely interested.

Localised to individual cities. Closure of cinemas, theatres, any public meetings banned, travel restricted and schools closed. (Info from Wikipedia and mainly about the US). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_distancing#1916_New_York_City_polio_epidemic
I just did a quick google and I’m sure that there are people who know far more than me.
Cities that implemented measures fared better than ones that didn’t.

I was living in a bedsit and subsisting on cheese sandwiches and cider plus the occasional kebab. I also used to read a lot more than I do these days so I would have passed the time ok. I couldn't have worked from home though. Ok if you had given me my own phone line and an acoustic coupler maybe I could have rigged something up.
