Yup, endomondo works well for this. Privacy is very configurable on a per-ride basis: me, friends or public. Public is nice if you are doing a ride you want to show off in Facebook.

I've just bought a cheap Android; Moto G. On TNRttC, London to Felpham, data on, 8 1/2 hours, 110 km it used 70% battery.

That was running endomondo, strava and cardiotrainer (yes, I'm sad). Phone on the handlebar so screen on fairly regularly to check distance or the time.

I use endo as do some mates and quite often watch their progressand them mine. Did a 110 audax and battery was ok. I've got a galaxy s4 and just got a large capacity battery from Amazon for £20. Doubled life of battery so no worries at all now! Also gives me the option to stop, take photo's etc without worry. Best £20 I ever spent, brilliant for day to day too. Audax was on original battery by the way. Love endomondo! !!!!!

Endomondo eats my battery less than any of the others I tried. My friend has an app that her husband can see where she is, not her route but don't remember to start it, but that killed my battery.

I don't tend to run it on long rides and anyway I have such poor reception in the area of country I live that I wouldn't be ringing for help.

When I broke my collar bone my partner was able to use it to come and get me, my descriptions of where I was weren't great!

interesting thread - i shall try endomondo and ask the mrs to track me
Oh joy for her...
Having tracked you and your neighbour she replies ''he went round 5 times as quickly as you did...time for a new model methinks''

And why not get her a new app so you can see which rooms she's been in while you've been out

Funnily enough.... guy who works with my brother was an avid football fan.

Until his wife bumped into one of his mates who told her that when they had got to the ground the match had been cancelled due to bad weather.

She then tracked him to find him at the house of a good friend of hers.

When he got home at the normal time, oblivious to the cancellation, there was an interesting discussion about "away matches" and he now lives with his parents!
