I had to learn a whole new language when I moved to Cumbria, and then when the children got older they taught me even more terms.
Shan - to be an embarrassment , or Shant - when you have been embarrassed.
in a yan - in a mood.
gan yam - going home.
Peeve - alcohol
Chatting keswick - talking nonsense.
 
It's all very confusing in Scotland.
Suedes are turnips
'to go shopping' is 'to go for the messages'
a bin is a bucket
fizzy drinks are collectively known as 'juice'.
to be a permanent resident somewhere is to stay, as in 'I stay in Edinburgh'
fish and chips is a fish supper, with brown sauce in Edinburgh but not I believe Glasgow
