Local Authority Camera Car

I've just caught the back end of a local BBC (NE) news item of residents up in arms about a "Parking Enforcement Camera Car" doing the rounds in Hartlepool.

One of the residents prosecuted appeared to be complaining about parking outside of his own house - partially blocking a cycle path.... and as he's been parking there for years, he couldn't understand why he's being prosecuted now.

Another resident was also prosecuted for parking outside of her own home, but I don't know if it was anyhing to do with a cycle path, however, despite having a large driveway with gates, and a caravan parked on her drive, she decided "in the interests of road safety" to block the footpath. Obviously couldn't be bothered to open her gates.... and is adamant she ain't paying. Methinks she's on a loser there

I wish they'd introduce one to my area

Saw one the other day in Croydon that was parked on a double red and causing an obstruction, irony!

Are these the micro cars with a camera which could be described as an electric toothbrush extension to it's roof? If so I spotted one very near to where I live the other day well into the pavement taking a good vantage point. I don't know the enforcement side of cars straddling cycle lanes but they do annoy me.

Some people really do need to be punched repeatedly

The easiest solution to all this would be to remove the cycle lane from the area.

In all seriousness, the cycle lanes I use most days are pointless and dangerous, I've been knocked over in one and the vehicle owners were parking there cars there long before the cycle lanes of death were in place.

That's an interesting question - are people allowed to park on cycle lanes?

Becuase they park all the time on them round my area, so the "London Loop" is basically unusable - which makes it kind of pointless.

But the number of police cars that are round my way, you think some of them should be ticketed by now? Or is it a matter for the council? Maybe I'll give them a call - I'm sure they'd appreciate the revenue......

It is illegal to block a cyclepath and I believe the current fine is £30. Might be wrong, but I recall a story here in Bristol about a driver getting fined for it thanks to a local cyclist pointing it out.

Drivers/car owners often suffer from the popular delusion that they own the apshalt outside their house and have 'rights' to park on it. This is especially true in terrace streets which were built without cars in mind in the first place. I've seen people nick police traffic cones to show 'their' parking territory (maybe they should p**s on it too  ). No one has the right to the road outside their house, however long you've lived there. Your property rights generally end at your garden fence/wall.

BTW, there's a house around the corner from me who always park their car entirely in the middle of the pavement, despite having a gravel drive. Odd or what?.

To entertain yourselves with more examples of jaw-dropping dumb parking, why not sit back, relax, and visit this blog:http://bristolcars.blogspot.com/

So, a friendly call to the council should get the cars in the cycle lanes ticketed then? Or is it police?

I wish they would enforce parking restrictions in my home area. Yellow lines appear to be for decorative purposes only, and pavements are fair game for lazy gits who can't be bothered to walk a few yards. Entertaining when a bus or lorry has to negotiate a corner littered with parked cars on yellow lines....

Don't start me on car drivers at big supermarkets. Hundreds of empty spaces in the vast car park, but they still just HAVE to park at the front door of the shop in the taxi spaces or the disabled spaces, or the bit clearly signed "pick up or drop off only".... Lazy selfish arrogant pratts.

I've actually seen people at out of town type places get in their cars to drive from one shop to the next
