Hi,

I have been following the boards a while now, just got my trek 7.2 fx last weekend and have been loving cycling about. So a friend and i want to get to snowdonia from liverpool, climb it and head back home. Does anyone know the best way going about this? Before december starts as a challenge. Both relatively fit.

Thanks for you help

you on about actually cycling from liverpool to snowdon !!!! or car then bike up snowdon from the base car park?? but if you don't have a car only way i cud think is getting the train from liverpool to chester or shotton... then chester/shotton to caernarfon... bike from caernarfon up snowdon... bit of a monster trek though!!

I would have thought Liverpool to Snowdon would not be a bad run depending on how long you are planning the challenge. If it's a day only jobbie then it's a tough one.As for climbing a mountain aswell, that could be fun depending on the weather which i am sure changes drastically very quickly up there.
Good luck with that and keep us posted

At that time of year I'd think about using the trains because the day is only short and you have roughly 80 miles of cycling each way and a 4 hour walk which means you'll run out of daylight before you're done. An overnight stay would make it possible to do solely on the bikes and there are many bunkhouses around Nant Peris plus the Vaynol pub (you can see my preference can't you). If you do cycle, going through the Wirral and out past Queensferry would be your best option and if you decide on that I'm sure a few of us can suggest best routes.

Otherwise you could cycle to Chester, get the train to Caernarvon and cycle to Snowdon, walk up, cycle back to Caernarvon, train to Chester and cycle back.

Hang on, nowhere does it say that the OP is riding up or to Snowdon. He said Snowdonia, bit of a difference  But then he said 'climb it', does he mean climb Snowdon or ride a climb somewhere in Snowdonia? The mind boggles.

Anyway, I've ridden into Snowdonia from Wirral. and back in a day a few times. To Betwys y Coed, it's about 112 miles return. It's not a ride I'd be keen on in December, though. From Liverpool you can make that more like 135 miles, assuming you're starting at the Pier Head

I took him to mean Snowdon as you can't climb Snowdonia.

Also I meant Bangor not Caernarvon, there's no train to Caernarvon.

The other option is to get the train to Betws-y-Coed.
Its then just a 10 mile bike ride (all uphill) to the start of the Pyg track.

But the Trek 7.2fx is a hybrid/road bike isn't it? I'm still not sure what the OP means. Perhaps he can clarify. Maybe you could get a hybrid bike up Snowdon with a bit of effort, coming down will be fun. I've done it on a fully rigid so no reason why it still can't be done.
