I do not use a lock at all. Which I suppose sounds strange to some people. I live in a fairly rural location but my cycling takes me to towns/cities around the country. I never feel the need to lock my bike.

...I usually ride longish rides away from my nearest town and just leave my bike outside shops/cafes, etc when I stop. I sometimes ask security guards to keep an eye out <I have been known to wheel my bike inside a supermarket and say "here mate keep an eye on this for me, I won't be long" to security guards and it's always been met with a cheery "no problem">

Then again, if I were to cycle to my local town I doubt if I would leave my bike unguarded/unlocked...so I suppose it's down to perception of risk. Maybe we are sometimes a bit too damning of where we live and/or a bit to trusting of places we do not know. Anyway, I have never had a problem.

I've got one of those Ed Co Op one's and it does the job for club cafe stops, I usually keep in my jersey pocket it seems to fit better there. Although when I'm on my own I tend not to stop at cafe's as I don't like to take my eyes of the bike.

PS I got it half price in one of their sales.

I'm in the market for one as well BTFB, for something light to lock up my bike on the train. As I find most days, the bike's in the bike carriage and the nearest seat is down the other end of the carriage(the seats are usually taken when I get on). Why people want to sit next to bikes and the toilet in a suit I'll never know. Anyway I'm looking for a deterrent lock - D-lock types will not be adequate as they are not big enough to attach the bike to the pole in the carriage - mostly to deter opportunist thieves. If I find anything at Evans/Cycle Surgery this lunchtime I will post up.

I have a dead basic cable lock picked it up from one of those discount shops for about 1.50 fits in jersey pocket easily. Its sole use is a deterrent on Cafe stops out in the sticks.
