I would consider a dynamo system. Doesn't need to cost a fortune for something serviceable and it is fit and forget and will always be there when you need it. Drag is barely noticeable if the dynamo is fitted corrected (there will be a whirring noise though) and halogen light is bright. Can be made even brighter if you fit a 3w bulb and use a battery tail lamp.

You will need two cheap LED lights to supplement it when stopped or else spend more and get lamps with stand lamps.

Was already excited about using my Hope 1 on its maiden voyage tonight... am doubly so now .

I've bought a Blackburn flea as back up and used it for a couple of rural commutes. It's great. Almost good enough to use on its own; weighs nothing and doesn't get in the way of anything.

Maplin bog standard rechargeables and hybrids work great in Hope vision 1. Unfortunately their sale on the former ended about 2 weeks ago.

I use AA rechargeable Eneloops, £20 for 12 batteries. They should be good for 1000 cycles, but the manufacturers are usually a bit optimistic.

The charger is a Technoline BL-700, about £28 from BatteryLogic.

I get about 1.75 hours burn time on the highest setting with the Hope Vision 1. Be warned that the Hope just cuts out dead when the battery falls below a certain level.
