Some folk obviously have to much money if they think £70 i cheap.....

Compared to a plastic cateye for £40-£50, a CNC alloy unit, with good customer service....£70 is cheap - and on low they are massively brighter than a cateye EL530 say.....:?:

For the money they are good Value !

Just been on Tesco Direct no 3w torch, the 4w is sold out but would that be to big for the bikes anyway?

Went to tesco's last night and they had the 1w torch for £8, reckon i could easily mount 2 on the front of my recumbent, but what kind of light output could i expect?

looking at the spec of led's 1w gives about 30lm to 50 lm

the beam shots of the Lupine Tesla would be acceptable but its rated at 700lm so i would have to fit at least 10-14 tesco torches to get the same light, sounds about right as the tesla is rated at 12w.

back to the drawing board, the price of the high output led lamps are way to much. main reason is as i work as an electronics tech in a hospital its a bit silly to spend that amount of cash when i should be perfectly capable of building my own.

let you know how i get on.

Ended up going for a Hope Vision 2 instead. Looked at the Vision 1 in the shop, but the beam pattern quality seemed inferior, plus two Vision 1's are only £15 off a Vision 2, the latter which has a Lithium Ion battery and charger too, so it was a no brainer.

Did think long and hard about the Airbike, but decided to go with a British firm instead.

I bought a CatEye HL-EL135, £25 which to be honest I don't think is cheap. However - for me it seems bright enough (3 LED's) for a short urban commute, it's light reflects quite brightly off road signs and casts a glow on the road ahead, which is enough for me. It uses AA batteries - so easily replaced in emergency. Anyone else use these or have any opinion?
