Hi Mathew thanks for your post, Im honestly useless at little diy jobs, so im now just looking at getting the best lights (taking value for money into account) that come with the whole shebang mounters etc, Irecon im going to be better off going down the l.e.d route searching through old posts at this moment to find best ones....

Hi Red thanks for your post, I can stretch to £125 if they will be worth it in terms of performance as I will be doing plenty of mileage ???

I used to have some of those and they weren't quite bright enough for a completely unlit road/path. Go for ayup or hope.

I've not tried the Airbike lights but they're advertised as having an output of 700lumens and a run time of 5 hours. This means they are almost twice as bright as the ayups with similar runtimes.

The Ayips 'only' have an output of 320lumens (They're still bright) and 6 hour run time.

The Hope lights have an output of 240lumens and the run times depend on the batteries but Hope quote 3 hours on max.

If you don't want to spend a lot mounting torches to your bars, it can be done very simply and easily with two jubilee clips each:

Which is what I did with my Tesco torches.

Sadly one is now off the bike as it been turned into a lightsaber for my youngest with the help of a bit of transparent plastic and some tissue paper. I was hoping he'd break it before I needed it again for my commute but he's being dissappointingly careful with it ;-)

Mr Summerdays has used his Ayup's twice now. On Friday he came home pleased with how well he could see on the unlit sections of his route home, and last night he got a comment on the brightness of his lights from another cyclist. So he seems very pleased.

And yet it's a super light carbon fibre factory build. Youngsters only ever shout out cool bike or heavy bike type comments. You might have a point if it were one of those ugly and scrappy homebuilds, LOL.
