Lights for Garage

I’m looking to use my garage as a workshop as well as place to store my bikes. Can anybody recommend some good lights for bike garage/cave. Been looking at a few from a local shop but unsure if there’s any that stand out from others/people have used for many years with no issue.

A simple led batten light does the job, the spiritual successor to the "fluorescent" light.

I've been looking at batten lights for the garage as well, currently it has two regular bulbs which whilst sufficient for moving around are less good for fine detail. I've got an inspection lamp above my workbench which provides much better light there but requires a socket. Screwfix have stuff for not too much and I'm more inclined to get them there than an amazon special.

I did the same (LED strips x 2 spaced out along the length of a single garage. I also bought a couple of plug in holders with approx 2 foot long flexible necks - which I put LED bulbs in to cover a couple of used worked in ‘corners and be reticulated to point where you want. I also bought a short lead light with a holder with a clip on: which I can move / get outside / affix wherever needed.

No good having space if you can’t use it due to poor lighting……

Led batten strip lights 2-3 for single garage will give plenty of light with no shadowing

They’re brilliant, I fitted one about 8 years ago and probably should have fitted a slightly less powerful one as it’s so bright!

I put a pair of these in our double garage

all right don’t rub it in, most of us mere mortals have to manage with a single

Lofts are tricky to illuminate; I replaced old filament bulbs with LED lamps at high level - they're great.
Still got fluorescent tubes under the purlins though.

Use the Screwfix ones, they are adequate.
Slap up led battens spaced about 1,5m to 2m apart . First one 1m from the wall
Assuming yours is a typical garage
Centre a batten or battens with a length of about 50% of the width of the garage.

Then you'll realise how rubbish the lighting is everywhere else. But your workshop will be great.

I have been mulling the replacement of my two fluorescents with LED panels - some useful stuff here, thanks.

However I already have a well-lit work bench. I had some leftover LED flexible strips from the kitchen renovation, so I put a length under the shelf that sits above the work bench, with a diffuse cover.

The work bench is now very well lit - useful the jobs on the bench.

Not worth it - you need light everywhere - linear light sources do that better than the led panels.

I fitted an 45W LED batten to replace 2 standard fluorescent fittings (1 x 6ft & 1 x 5ft), fitted the opposite direction, so it went along the length of the garage rather than across. I think the single LED gives more light than the 2 did. and it's a better quality light. I do work for a company who sells them so knew a fair bit about them. Look at the lumens and the light colour if you can find the info. The colour or temperature is it's sometimes shown as, will be a K number, the higher the brighter. For example 3000K is more of a yellow light, whilst 6000K is classed as daylight and gives off a much whiter light, better for working in a garage. The higher the lumens, the brighter the light will be. Happy to help if you need any more info.
