i have just got a schmidt dynohub for my pompino. love it! super bling! have it running a rather ordinary halogen lamp at the moment, but will soon upgrade. i am trying to decide between the schmidt edelux, busch & muller IQ fly, and the gorgeous looking supernova E3.
i have a cheaper nexus nx 30 hub dynamo on my town bike. it powers B&M front and rear lights (both with stand lights,so they stay on at when you stop at lights etc). i've done many miles with this set up now and has performed faultlessly. the nx30 and lights i got on ebay so didn't cost that much, adds little in terms of weight and what drag there may be is undetectable. personally i think hub dynamos are hard to fault as a lighting system in the majority of situations. i do like those AY UPS though ;-)

A pairt of Fenix L2D torches with lockblock bike mountings. About £85 quid and they will blow the vast majority of bike lights costing three times as much away. Great quality and waterproof too. They run on AA batteries.

If you want a battery light, I'll suggest a Hope Vision 1 £63-£70 ish. 4xAA, 3h on a too bright full power, will last 8-10h on a riding round the lanes level off.

This light gets another vote from me.

My morning rides are mostly along unlit country lanes before the sun comes up so pretty dark!

I originally purchased the Cateye EL220 which was good but not good enough.

I took the plunge and purchased the Hope 1. Fitted it with Energizer Lithium Ultimate batteries, and can confirm the difference is like night and day compared to the Cateye.

I used the Hope for the first time this morning and it was bright enough so that I only had to use it on medium setting for most of the ride. In some parts I used the second most brightest setting.

I wouldn't bother with normal Duracell AA's, get the Energizer Lithium's as they have a higher output.

Deffo worth considering
