Light Pedals. Recommendations please

Hi All
I bought a s/h Defy 2 a couple of weeks ago and the seller didn't include the pedals,
(fair enough) so I called in at Halfords on the way home from picking it up and just bought
the cheapest flat ally ones on the shelf. At £15 an absolute bargain judging by the weight, as
the scrap price of aluminium is quite high at the moment.

So what should I have bought? What's recommended? Or more importantly, what's the lightest?

As a beginner at this biking lark I'm not ready for snap in feet yet as I could well end up with snapped off ankles, so just a simple flat lightweight jobbies will do.

Failing this I'll fire up my lathe, cut some thin sheet titanium, and have a go at making some.

Cheers All (in anticipation)
Paul

Can't help there. Best bet is SPDs to start with, then move onto SPD SL, Look Keo or similar.

No idea on flats. Wouldn't worry as you will most likely move onto clipless soon enough. Pointless finding light flat pedals on a road bike, when road shoes or MTB shoes will make a big difference with the right pedals.

Leave them on till ready to move to clipless.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
For now I'll follow the advice of Fossyant.

Just as a matter of interest, does anyone use a hollow design for pedal axels?
That part seems to be 2/3rds of the weight of a pedal.

Cheers,

Give Shimano M324s a try. Flat one side and clipless the the other, you can 'ease yourself in' to going clipless -which is where you really want to be. They go reasonably cheap on Ebay as users move onto fully clipless.

The TrigRig Mercury pedal weighs 35g
Speed play Zero Titanium pedal weighs 82g
Look Keo2 Blade Carbon pedal weighs 122g

I like look pedals as they have a wide footplate which offers stability. I would advise finding pedals which are comfortable and suit you.
Weight should not be too much of a consideration for you though imho

Limited wonga I'm afraid. The wife already thinks one bike is enough.

Nowhere near the Midlands thanks all the same. I'm in that flat (ish) area known as the bread basket.

I am intrigued by the M324's. Mmmm, food for thought.

Wow. some of those are more than I payed for the bike.

Cheers for the replies, and apologies for putting this in the wrong section.
