I cringed at the comments re Robert Millar some months ago by these shlek jackasses. They ain't the sharpest tools in the box. If they weren't fast on bikes they'd be the village idiots of their locality.

(Blimey - that means I'm the same height as scrawny Andy Schleck and used to be the same weight as him!)

I don't really know what they could have done to stop Gilbert winning but it looked as though they had decided to settle for 2nd and 3rd places!

Anther good win by Gilbert which confirms that his form is at a peak right now. Winning all three of the weeks races is one heck of an achievement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was glad to see Gilbert win but I was a bit disappointed that other folk didn't present more of a challenge!
That was exactly my reaction!

I found myself getting really anxious in the last few kms, not because I thought Gilbert might get beaten, but at the thought that he might be robbed of the victory by a last minute mechanical problem.

Sorry to be boring - but the perennial "also-ran" Gilbert suddenly is unstoppable up a short, sharp climb overnight.

Like Di Luca / Schumaker / Rebellin / Vino/ Hamilton used to do. Leaving Gilbert in their wake. I've always liked him, as I thought he was clean. Now he looks as if he's riding a motorbike.

Of course he may still be clean and at the age of 28 suddenly learnt how to ride quickly for 2kms up a hill.

Actually, he's been getting steadily better for years, and he's been able to ride a hill all of his career. Check his palmares: http://www.cyclingbase.com/palcoureurs.php?id=412&idtitle=1

Yup. He's a canny racer too - pretty rare to see him waste energy on attacks that go nowhere, and I think OPL have ridden well as a team in support of him this year too.

LEOPARD - well, I think they've shown how much their superstars are missing Bjarne Riis in their earpieces...

I heard on commentary that PG has been an outspoken critic of doping but I have no further evidence of that. I'd like to think it was true though.

I read an article recently where PG directly relates his increasing success to the implementation of the biological passport.

PG has been outspoken in his criticism of dopers. The reason he is going better than ever? He is the right age - about 28 is one of the times when you have strength, fitness, and race savvy to deliver - and the bio-passport has shifted some of the cheats out of the sport. Watching him destroy the Schlecks was interesting, they had no tactical clue, earpiece or not, and possibly not the ability to deliver on the day. If the peloton is cleaner than it's ever been (and we all want that, surely) then the best who may have been left by "prepared" riders from certain teams, are now able to show their true ability. Good!
