My neighbour, a good lad, is a VERY keen fisherman. In order to be able to cart his various items of 'must have' fishing kit about, he needs a Transit van - !
I occasionally remind him that 'when I were lad', all we needed was the rod along the bike top tube and a basket slung across our back.
His usual response is 'Shaddup - !'

When I were a lad , it was smelly rucksack on my back with bait and my food for the day . Rod was gaffer taped to the top tube of my bike ! If I went for a whole day !

Thanks but no thanks. I think I'll pass.
Mr WD was an avid angler. I used to go as well, and caught roach, rudd, bream and Carp on lakes In the Midlands.

We have our own pond here and now he just has a dabble now and again.

He is no longer interested in spending lots of money on rods and gear and day tickets. Anymore, especially when he can walk 100 yards up the field. 😆

I think fishing itself is almost like a disease... You walk into a tackle shop for for a £2-4 pack of hooks and cheap groundbait/pellets and end up leaving after spending £500 on new reels, rods or fancy kit like those remote control boats that carry loose feed to where your bait is and drop it at a push of a button.

With my old man it was very different. He does a lot of carp fishing so all the equipment he bought and used he pretty much used 15-25 years till they gave up the ghost and he had no choice but to fork out for new gear. We are talking about really early carbon fiber or fiber glass fishing rods. Its amazing how much lighter new rods are compared to those old ones.

For carpers, it doesn't matter a whole lot how much their equipment weighs as they dont move around to different swims very much once they are all set up.

Modern day match anglers are as bad for carrying loads of kit .They all need barrows to transport to their pegs . When I used to fish matches seriously me and my mate got all our kit in the back of my Ford escort estate and everything was carried for miles along rivers and canals ,all the lads I now who still fish at a high level travel alone as you can't get 2 people's kit in 1 car anymore and most match anglers drive vans .
My fishing nowadays involves a deckchair 1 waggler rod and a landing net while fishing a lake in Cornwall catch bream and skimmers while watching the campers ( Carp fisherman ) catching nothing all day .The last time I went I landed a 9lb carp on light weight kit 2lb hook length and the carp anglers watch me land it and weighed it and said that's the biggest fish to come out all week ! Not sure they were amused

caught on a 21g berkley pulse spintail - another rather tiny lure. I dont know what it is about this location that they wont take larger lures. This one could easily take down a 10-15cm lure (maybe even 18-20cm at a stretch) but they all love these tiny spinner baits.

Not caught one while fishing this year. Spoken to one of the clubs council members and he thinks that in between them taking out some of the bigger snags. cormorants, pike and supposedly two 'rogue' catfish that the stock of perch have been totally devastated.

I have no idea why they are letting them go this cheaply. Both rod and reel look and feel pretty good quality and would work well for anyone with any young sons or nephews that would want to get into fishing. Would also serve well as a back up combo.

Link to the rods - They have everything from 1-10g all the way up to 12-55g so there are rods to cover all your light to medium spinning needs.

Link to the reels - These interested me because they seemed to be a knock off of the more expensive Daiwa Ninja spinning reels

I wasnt expecting much from either of these two items but the rod is very light and a high quality carbon blank with enough give in the tip for casting the smaller lures and more backbone for bigger pike. I would say a bit overpowered for small perch but it will still work.

The Reel runs really smooth and again the build quality is very high. Claims to have 7 ball bearings but a lot of manufacturers will exaggerate the number of BBs their product has to make it sound like a premium product and then give you poor quality bearings.

You could look at the spinning combos on the AD website but i doubt you'll get better than this. Absolutely silly price for a half decent setup.

Conditions are currently quite bad for spinning with all that sunshine, so I wont be able to head out to the lake to try the new kit out till next week wednesday onwards providing the forecast doesnt change. (it always changes...)

Down in Cornwall so doing at bit of course fishing at a lovely lake . Been taking my Elderly cousin who lives down here ,he used to take me fishing before I had a car I now repay these favours by getting his kit to the best most distance pegs on the lake as he struggles on his own .We had 3 lovely days fishing nice simple wagglers for Bream ,Crucian carp and the odd tench . Best fish was a 6lb tench for me which couldn't resist my sweetcorn bait ,Great fight on light 2.5lb line . I think on the best day I had 20 bream to 3lb but mostly around 1.5lb and a few roach and a couple of Crucians . Just reminded why I went fishing to begin with before I went down the competive branch of the sport
