'Upgraded' is an oft misused word, imo.

Seems to be used more as 'changing to a more expensive version of something I already have', as opposed to something manifestly better.

It's certainly a subjective term. The same change could be an upgrade to an enthusiastic person and wrong-on-principle change to someone of a tutting and disapproving nature.

Or someone who is content with the possessions they have... And don't need the latest / fastest thingy....

I've never understood how fitting a power meter upgrades a bike in any way. It doesn't make the bike easier to ride or even 1mph faster than it was before - it's just a sensor to help improve the rider.

It doesn't upgrade the bike.

It upgrades the way you use the bike, if you actually make proper use of the meter, and you are riding with specific training purposes.
