Got a nice story for this thread:
the other evening, riding home from work, a cyclist coming towards me(just ordinary clothes, ordinary hybrid bike, not semi-pro attired, I mean) starts ringing his bell, then shouts a loud "hiya" to me from across the street.
Could not stop smiling, it felt like being chatted up
As I'm female, I tend not to say hi first to other cyclists, least I give the wrong impression, don't see that many anyway, and it's mostly dark when I commute.
I will smile to a girl, or a guy if he's towing children.
Of course, if somebody acknowledges me, I will respond.

I have ALWAYS waved and or acknowledged other cyclists.....I figure that regardless of our ego we are all in this together and courtesy and friendliness costs next to nothing.
The only people I get no response from is generally those in expensive clothes riding expensive bikes. I have no idea why this is.

But no matter.....I will continue to nod and wave until told otherwise.

I like feeling the occasional common bond between like-minded enthusiasts.

Until recently I drove this...............

................nothing special but Puma owners loved their cars and it was always nice to see another. It went without saying that Puma drivers would always flash or wave.

Maybe I'm weird?

I don't give a 'cheery' wave to every passing cyclist. Hopefully it doesn't make me a bad person.

I will generally tend to say good morning to most, providing it's a weekend and I am outside of the M25.

I had one of the new MINIs when they first came out and for the first 2 or 3 years MINI owners would wave at eachother, then almost overnight everyone just stopped.

To be honest, it was a pain. As is nodding at every cyclist I see going the other way. I still do it though, just to be polite. That's me though - I'm the kind of person that finds small talk incredibly tedious.
