We cycle past Leisurelakes on our way home from work every day (we live just up the road from there). It's a bit stockist for Specialized kit and always has lots of stock in. Take your bike inside with you though! We have heard that it has a good workshop too, but our loyalty is more with Cooksons in Whitefield or MK Cycles in Bolton, so we tend to go there for repairs/builds etc. Bike Factory bloke in Whitefield is very nice and very helpful, but the shop's on the wrong side of the road for us on our way home from Manchester, so we aren't frequent customers. We have also used Harry Hall Cycles and Bicycle Doctor in Manchester many times - both of which are really excellent too. I you actually want quality advice, specific to your stated needs, from experienced cyclists who happen to own bike shops, then MK Cycles in Bolton or the workers co-operative, Bicycle Doctor in Manchester, are the best for that. Leisurelakes has a great stock of kit, but I personally have not found the lads in there particularly knowledgeable (not about road bikes anyway), or very customer service orientated.

Yeah I was looking at Cooksons today, unfortunately the Trek models they had were 1.5 onwards, which is just too much for me.

They did? I don't know whether to get a Allez tomorrow or just wait and see if they get a Trek 1.2

I really don't know which bike is best though. Heard mixed thoughts.

Did you actually ask them in store or take a peak and leave?

Ring them and make sure as they are quite helpful.

Well I only had 2minutes to spare when I went, so I just went in and peeked at the models, I should have asked to be honest. I will ring them first thing tomorrow morning.

I can't comment on the Rochdale/ Bury store but I've been a regular of both the Lancaster and Cheltenham stores and am usually very happy with the service I've recieved (although in both shops I got to know the managers and mechanics pretty quickly, which can make a difference). I bought a Spesh Allez from the Lancaster store and a few bits and bobs over the course of the year. At Xmas they sent me a £10 voucher which was a nice touch.

Well unfortunately they don't have any Defy 3's in stock and 2010 range wont be coming until late August .

So a choice folds out infront of me.To get a 2009 Defy 2.5 or to get a Spec Allez Sport 27 2010

I live in Littleborough and work in Bury -cycling into work and back on average twice a week (would like to cycle in every day but nature of job necessitates site visits with car the other 3 days).

Purchased bike from Leisure Lakes 12 months ago via the 'Cycle to Work Scheme'. I found their attitude and customer service absolutely abysmal. The young polite(trainee?) lad who tended to me initially was disgracefully belittled in front of me (for which I took the manager to task). The panniers I ordered and was assured would be in stock within 2 weeks never arrived and I had to do all the chasing even though they said they would ring me. Also when I later went into the store to sort the pannier problem out (as I had already 'paid' for them under the scheme the ignorant fool who served me turned to his colleague and said 'you talk to him as this bloke is weird' - I happen to be that rare person who hails from the westcountry and moved up north complete with my deep westcountry accent. Love it up North by the way (including the normally very friendly people) and would never move back.

On the plus side the bike is fantastic!
