Hello

I'm looking for a cycle route from Leicester (South) to Birmingham (Sheldon).

I was thinking of taking the B4114 via Nuneaton all the way there.

Anyone had experience of this route or can offer any alternatives?

Many thanks,

Maz.

Canal towpaths around Brum offer routes to everywhere.....

A quick google says that the Grand Union is available into Brum from Leicester.

That's if you fancy off-road of course.

Hi Maz - do you have a GPS? If so I can send you some files if you PM me.
I have done a route from my house in South Leics to Erdington in North Birmingham, which I can send you. You can get to S leics from the centre via a sustrans route which takes in the canal I thihnk. Also, if you take the sustrans route west out of the city centre towards Ratby, you can head there through the lanes north of atherstone, through Kingsbury water park and then cut in just south of sutton coldfield.

Hi

No, unfortantely, I don't have a GPS. I'll have a look at the Sustrans routes as you suggest.
Can you remember which villages your route took you through?

Yes, it went:
Ullesthorpe
Monks Kirkby
Withybrook
Shilton
Hawkesbury
Bedworth
Keresley
Corley
Corley Moor
Chapel Green (on Sustrans route from now on)
Newall Green
Maxstoke
Shustoke
Whiteacre heath
Bodymoor heath
Hunts Green
Allan End
Across the A38 to Walmely
Erdington.

When you get to Shustoke/Maxstoke you are nearly in Sheldon, this is where you need to veer off from Kirstie's route.

From Shustoke the road will take you into Coleshill, from there head to Marston Green at the back of Chelmsley Wood (Coleshill High Street, Coleshill Heath Road and Coleshill Road) and then into Sheldon.

Going between Coleshill and Marston Green you have the intersection of the M6 and M42, so there are a couple of big islands and a dual carriage ways (A446 and A452) cutting across the west of Coleshill. These A roads are very busy so beware.

You could instead head from Coleshill to Smiths Wood (crossing the A446 and A452 again), Fordbridge, Tile Cross and towards Kitts Green, Sheldon would be on your left. There is about a mile of cycle lane going through Fordbridge.

If you want further directions let me know.

Jimbo would know the area quite well I imagine.
