Leg Warmers - how high?

You should be able to pull the leg warmers all the way up until they rub against the pad of your shorts without issues.

That'd be too high for me. Ime, and seemingly that of the OP too, that'd cause irritation.

I go for a slightly lower position; high enough to stay put yet low enough to not irritate. I also make sure there's not any gather behind the knees and that zips are not sitting on my ankles. I try to distribute any 'slack' evenly but it usually finds its own home anyway.

Mine go from ankle to wherever they stop 1/3 up my thigh, got mine from wiggle dhb's, never had any problems with chafing

I've started putting mine about 2 inches above the grip strip of my shorts. Like others - I ensure there's no gather behind the knees - but as I have short legs I need to gather them a little at the ankles.

Rather that than the alternative though - it wasn't pleasant.

I have that problem too - duck's disease as it's known by some. ;) Sadly, I found it uncomfortable to allow too much gather at the ankle and I need to distribute it a little. But then I find that if the tongues on my shoes aren't 'just so' then they can irritate as well! Guess I'm just a picky bugger!

It shouldn't do as the leg warmer shouldn't move. If it's actually rubbing on the pad then it will move but if it's not then it should stay still. This is of course assuming you've got decent leg warmers which fit your thigh properly.

I can't comment for yello but in my case the top of the leg warmer rubbed against the nose of the saddle which caused movement against the inner thigh (or looking between my legs whilst riding that's what I believe happened). By lowering them they no longer rub on the saddle and hence stay put on my legs.

They're decent leg warmers, yes, or so Assos would have you believe ;) They're not moving either, they're staying put... but my legs move!

I don't know what should be but I do find that if they're too high (i.e. into my groin area) then they irritate me. If they're a couple of cm lower then there's no problem.

Groin area? That's well in to the area that the leg warmer & pad will be rubbing against each other. This will cause the leg warmer to move. Look at where the pad of your shorts actually interact with your legs when sat on the bike!
