Hi all,

Sorry I haven't posted on here for ages, anyways I was just looking for some advice me and my friend are planning to do a cycle trip to the east coast (Scarborough) It's will currently be 140 miles round trip. We aim to do 70 there and back within 2 days. (this is currently in the early stages of planning)

Just wondering if you can offer any advice on such a long ride?

The way of the roses goes Morecambe to Bridlington . you should be able to drop on to it around Harrogate . Well sign posted on quiet roads then there is a route Bridlington to Scarborough believe it's NCR 1

Sounds like a mammoth journey but one well worth doing! Good luck with the planning. I would need to book 2 nights in Scarborough for extra rest (and beers) between rides of that distance

You get used to the distance.

I plotted a coast to coast route from Scarborough to Blackpool and hope to have a go at it next year in one day if I think I am quick enough to do it between the first train arriving at Scarborough and the last one leaving from Blackpool.

We thought about booking a few nights in Scarborough and heading back feeling fresh, like I say early stages but thanks

Wow good luck! That would be a amazing achievement

I drove to Filey a couple of weeks ago, and i noticed that there is a cycle path alongside the A64, don't know how good or bad the surface is, but it has to be safer than mixing with the traffic on the dual carriageway parts. Good luck.

Oh yeah, actually forgot about that one, might have to take a stroll up there. Thanks a lot.

Avoid the A64?

- Leeds-Thorner-Bramham-Tadcaster - nice riding.

- The cycle path alongside the dual carriageway Tadcaster-York is fine to ride - but for the rest?

I've done York-Malton on a "quiet" day ........ ONCE. Never again.

- The back-road route - almost to Stamford Bridge, Buttercrambe, and on to Norton. Just about as direct - and infinitely more pleasant.

- From Malton, thread through between the A64 and A170, and A170 for last few miles? Only ridden it once - from memory, much less traffic, moving more slowly than A64. Vague memories of a pig of a hill outside Scarborough?

[Edited - forgot the important bit. Go for it and enjoy! I have vague plans to try this - a neighbour used to do it there and back in a day .... when he was a kid. Like you, I'll take 2 days!]

I live in Wakefield, work in Leeds but only moved over here a few years ago having grown up in Scarborough. I know the area well.
Multiple routes that are better than A64. I used to cycle Scarborough to York and back when I was a teenager. I must have had a death wish. Some alternatives:

Leeds to Selby to Driffield to Scarborough?

Leeds to Tadcaster to York to Helmsley to Scarborough

Or the Stamford Bridge route ^^^^^^ is a nice ride, then through the villages parallel to A64

Why not make it an epic ride and go there and back in the day? It's do-able on a long sunny day.

Oh thank you kind Sir.This year has been rubbish,Hope to do better in 2016.
So I do remember right then. I thought I had seen a photo of you in the company of Arch.

However far you have cycled this year, it will certainly be further than me.
