Well, I had decided on the Trek 1.9 but now the LBS tells me that they can't get them and have to wait at least 3 weeks for them. The guy also did the dirty and said that the quote I got for £1000 (from another sales guy) was way too low and they couldn't do it for that. I said that I have cash and will pay now but he still said no so I walked out

I now need to find another bike but the problem is that being in Northern Ireland (Belfast) we hardly have any shops with stock and I want my bike today. I also looked at a Spesh Allez Elite and a Giant Defy 1 but they don't have my size and it too will be 3 weeks but it isn't spec'd as well as the Trek (Ultegra vs 105) so I'm in a quandry what to do.....

Suggestions please....wait, pay more or what?

Legally binding, isn't it (although hard to prove!). ;)
Unlikely. For a contract to exist there has to be an offer and an acceptance. A quote is merely the offer.

I had real problems trying to get a Specialized Allez Sport a couple of weeks back. Apparently Specialized are out of stock of the 2009 bikes and won't be building any more because the 2010 models are due out in June/July.

Not sure how accurate this is as it came from Halfords Cycle2Work customer services (sic) but a local LBS couldn't get one either.

It's true about specialized bikes

When I bought my allez in January, all the dealers I went to told me there would be long wait for them and would have to wait until around may. Luckily one local shop had one in stock in my size too

I Just bought a Trek 1.9 this afternoon. The LBS did it for £1000....mega deal if you ask me. Delivery 22nd April....WHOOP WHOOP!!

They were really helpful and kudos to Simon Walsh on this forum who suggested the LBS (J M Hanna in Lisburn). They have great discounts on Treks (09 models) at present and even the Madone 4.7 (or something) is £1400 - worth a call if anyone is looking.

A good result ;)

You have to look round.

My fixed will be about 5 weeks to get the frame.... and it's just a quality alloy frame that many good LBS's use......

Slightly OT I know, but there was some mention in the cycling press earlier in the year, maybe late last, that supplies of bikes in the UK was going to get very short come spring /summer 09, due to under estimating demand by all the main manufacturers.

Obviously now the credit crunch (which apparently) no one saw coming;) is upon us, what stock is available has gone up in price, especially ShimaNO.

Actually:
Person A gives a quote - this is 'an invitation to treat'.
Person B then makes an 'offer' - either for the full value of the quote, or barterting down.
Person A then decides if they accept this 'offer'

Could be the amount of people that are getting bikes through cyclescheme at the minute that has ment that they are chort in suply. Have you tried downeys in dromore ?

Faling that you might need to look across the water for it.

Someones promoting the Treks and the Allez via Cyclesheme. I don't know if it's on the Cyclescheme website under recommended bikes or the LBS's are promoting these 2 only.

I have seen a lot of bikes through Cyclescheme and there seems to be a pattern forming to which bikes are being bought which could be a bit confusing in the bike parking !
