Well, I had decided on the Trek 1.9 but now the LBS tells me that they can't get them and have to wait at least 3 weeks for them. The guy also did the dirty and said that the quote I got for £1000 (from another sales guy) was way too low and they couldn't do it for that. I said that I have cash and will pay now but he still said no so I walked out

I now need to find another bike but the problem is that being in Northern Ireland (Belfast) we hardly have any shops with stock and I want my bike today. I also looked at a Spesh Allez Elite and a Giant Defy 1 but they don't have my size and it too will be 3 weeks but it isn't spec'd as well as the Trek (Ultegra vs 105) so I'm in a quandry what to do.....

Suggestions please....wait, pay more or what?

Good price the 1.7 is RRP £950.

Yeah suppose but I just fancied Ultegra over 105

If you know what you want, can't you just give Chain Reaction a call? They're in NI and I've always found them to be pretty good.

They don't do Trek...or do they? Maybe they could get me one though

Have you tried Slane Cycles as I think they are NI way? Generally good reports on them.

They are good and I know Paul but they are talking bikes at the next level like Colnago, Pinarello, Scott etc so a wee bit out of the price range. They do have Bianchi but not so keen on it after seeing it.

You can't expect shops to have stock in all of the bikes in all of the sizes

I waited for five weeks for my last one

You could try J M Hannah in Lisburn he is a Trek dealer or Dave Kane's would be able to sort you out with a good bike main dealers for cannondale possibly a CAD9 with 105.

Come to think of it I think Kinnings cycles sell Trek as do Wheels n Motion in Lurgan and bike-it in belfast sell trek also but haven't dealt with any of them. McConveys have always been good to deal with and sell Giant and Specalized.

What shop was it that were crap ?

The price of Shimano components has rocketed recently and may have something to do with their previous offer being withdrawn. Having said that it's not good policy to renege on a verbal contract.

Dave Kane - Not interested in Cannondale - tried them a while ago!
Kinnings - only have 1.2's in stock but said they can get them so will pop in tomorrow to see if they can do a deal.
Wheels N Motion - None available and said it will be 4 weeks as I was teh 4th person to call today.
McConveys - I like the Spesh Allez Elite but they say there are none to be had in the UK - or at least they can't get any.
Bike-It - they were poor and was teh shop that initially said yes and then today said no!

Just have to wait and see I suppose.......might just try and see how long one would take to come from mainland.

Cheers for the advice though

I had real problems trying to get a Specialized Allez Sport a couple of weeks back. Apparently Specialized are out of stock of the 2009 bikes and won't be building any more because the 2010 models are due out in June/July.

Not sure how accurate this is as it came from Halfords Cycle2Work customer services (sic) but a local LBS couldn't get one either.

Legally binding, isn't it (although hard to prove!).

verbal is binding in theory

I'd suspect that if there was that much difference in price though that'd there'd been some sort of misunderstanding about spec or model

Could be the amount of people that are getting bikes through cyclescheme at the minute that has ment that they are chort in suply. Have you tried downeys in dromore ?

Faling that you might need to look across the water for it.

Cheers for this. Across the water woul dbe a nightmare so will have a last gasp attempt tomorrow and might even go back to the original store and see what they can do. After all, there can't be that many people buying bikes for a grand in Belfast.....could be wrong though!!
