It happens in a lot of trades, after 30 years of being a electronic service engineer I can tell you stories that would make you think twice about taking your tv etc in for repair or even buying a 'new' tv.

Be very wary of 'Bikes and' shops. Bikes and Lawnmowers, Bikes and Mopeds, Bikes and Toys, Bikes and Fishing Tackle, Bikes and Skateboards, Bikes and Intercontinental Ballistic Weapons...

Though I must say William's Cycles and Prams in Gloucs was pretty good when I last visited in 1994.

Ride bikes and skateboards in coventry are another good example of a business that successfully supports both cycling and skating needs.

PS - I've also seen the owner riding bikes with cardboard wrapped around the tubing. Presumably they're still sold as new bikes.

If it's a quick test after setting up the gears I don't have a problem, if he's using a bike for a week or so, then use another new bike for a week and so on, then that's not right.

when i'm looking at a new bike in a proper bike shop, I assume it's been test ridden by someone at some point but checked over by the shop.

+1 for Ride, my nearest LBS, the fella who runs it is a long term member of The Coventry Road Club and one of the top cyclists in the area.

Without naming names let me just say there is no decent cycle shops in Coalville IMHO, I'll now be using the ones in Loughborough
