Hello,

Hoping for some guidance

Over the past few weeks I have noticed my front derailleur being rather slow to change from the small ring to the large ring. Just occasionally it will also over shift both up and down (more often down than up).

I asked the LBS for advice on how to adjust and noticed that the hanger guide was sitting about 4-5mm above the large chainring teeth (they advised 1-3mm max) so I moved it down a shade, but this hasn't helped. In fact I went too far down and the teeth of the large chainring were rubbing on the hanger when on the small ring, so I've moved it a bit further up. In doing so I noticed that the hanger itself is rather loose - trouble is I've no idea if this is normal or not and whether this may be the problem?

any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Cables.

Either clean them out, or replace (I'd replace). Also spray some lube on the mech pivots. Do the rear ar the same time !

No, a loose cage on the FD is not normal and should be under the tension of a very strong spring which is usually pushing it towards the small ring position.

ok, thanks, Think I'll get the LBS to check it out then

of course shifting has now improved vastly after I tightened up the cables
