...or you can have a look at all his contempories who have been busted for doping and realise that if he is doping he is in the majority, stop kidding yourself that you have the faintest inkling of an insight into his personality, and then sit back and enjoy the tour.

Yup, for me the personality of Mr Armstrong is as a closed book. I do wish however that he didn't/hadn't just become famous for doing the TdF as there are plenty of other races he might had a crack at as well.

So for me he will never be the greatest cyclist of all time when there are the likes of Mercx and Hinault around.

Anyway, I'd like to see Bradley Wiggins do well this year, very impressive today.

Oh, and Kimmage unwittingly gifted Armstrong with a way out; a way to deflect and the avoid the question. You could question who is the more insensitive.

IMO I think ALL journos are ******* scum, or dog **** that gets trodden in. I have nothing but contempt for people who make a living writing **** about other people (to sell papers) and if (when) the emboldened front page story is proved wrong they write an apology on one line inside page 17 next to the cat food ads.

There aren't many people I have contempt for, mainly domestic abusers, child abusers, thieves, 'gangstas', druggies, dealers, but ******* journos are up there with them.

He is good for cycling - my office are only aware of Lance and how he is doing. TdF would be like darts in the national conscience without Lance. Personally, I do not mind him. He is not my favourite man, but few top end sportsmen are actually nice people. Look at Cav and his arrogance. You need a degree of barsteward to be successful. I respect him and think he will do well enough in the TdF to leave a feeling that he tried and gave it his best shot for an old man.

As for the drugs - I think if we lined up his opposition from the 1st win, we would find that drug taking was as common as getting an espresso. They were all it. Why pillory Lance and ignore the rest.

It just means that you need to read a bit more. All of this stuff has a historical context....../......Some might call this bullying and intimidation....

Thanks for not chewing my AR$e off, and taking the time to reflect where you form your opinions - it's appreciated!

heard a little on the radio, he's tested more than any other rider?

if he's doping, why isn't he caught while everyone else is?

No he is not. He says he is but that is total bollocks. I used to have an article saved on my last laptop which detailed how many tests different cyclists had taken, but it is now deleted, and he was way down the list. And still he proclaimed he was 'the most tested athlete'.

Kimmage does not serve the fight against doping well as he uses language which infuriates. IMO he has to be a bit smarter, but I reckon his experiences have made hi very bitter, and this has festered over many years.

He was. Caught using corticosteroids (and got a retrospective doctors note) and caught in a retrospective re-test of his '99 samples. And don't assume that everyone else gets caught.

Yeah the tour has been really boring since he came back, very detrimental to cycling.

Think of all those inspired people getting on their bikes, increasing numbers on the roads, doing our elitist image no good whatsoever.

Great. So when he finally packs it in they'll forget that cycling ever existed.

That does cycling no favours at all.

Cycling doesn't exist for them now, just Lance. Most sports have figureheads.

So if he hadn't come back we'd all have been gardening instead? Please...

Pardon me while I p*ss myself laughing. By that logic after 7 TdF wins we should have been up to the tops of our long socks in Trek riding wannabes. Strangely enough it didn't seem to happen, did it?
