And we'd be going up from the steep side, but I'd rather climb it than ride on the A591. Then we go down "The Struggle" to Ambleside.
Coming back, going over the pass from Windermere is not as severe.

100 and a bit miles from Manchester (closest I can get without a train change at Mordor Central). I guess a detour and stopover in the Forest of Bowland might be necessary.

Grasmere Hostel is now fully booked that weekend - looking at other options away from the main roads as suggested by @MikeW-71 but I think we will need to decide on final numbers fairly soon @Pat "5mph" if we are going for that weekend.

I know not everybody has flexible working patterns like me, do we think it's a possibility though?
Or keep the date but change the location?

Any bank holiday weekend in the Lakes will be stupidly busy. Go outside them and outside high tourist season for best results.

That's what I get for trying to please people I suppose :

From experience, I have had great cycling weather first two weeks of june last few years . Could tie in with bank holiday weekend to help some save on annual leave?

I am happy with ANY weekend in May, I was trying to be democratic - I'll post up the previous weekend then as June is out for me, I'll need deposits in advance as well so I'm not left high and dry.

So as per above the date has been changed to Friday 20 to Monday 23 May, can everyone who expressed an interest please confirm they are happy with the date change, happy with the accommodation type (hostel), trust me to book something suitable and willing to pay a deposit in advance:
