Coe did have an MBE originally, the OBE would possibly have overlapped with him knowing John Major. I don't quite understand what you're on about Andy in Sig, all of the awards outlined have been the same order apart from Steve Redgrave i.e. Ellen MacArthur and Holmes DBE; Pinsent CBE; Seb Coe KBE/OBE/MBE; Bradley Wiggins OBE; Chris Hoy MBE etc.

I think it is very much on line with what Andy in Sig has said
If however, after a lifetime of sporting achievement, they go on to do things to encourage others to take up sport, particularly encouraging children to get into it etc
... it's the lifetime achievement combined with a "profile" which brings the knight/damehoods.

The likes of Rebecca Adlington should get a lower award, which can be ranked up as she gets further success later in life (was this how Seb Coe was awarded his ?).

Bradley/Chris are only likely to be considered for knighthoods when they retire .... so that's a long way off yet !

That's one of the bones of contention: IMO her reward was her medal, she needs no further recognition from the UK. Awards should be for work which is above and beyond ...

Yeah, I can understand that but I think it's more of a 'recognition from a grateful nation' (tongue firmly in cheek, touching fo'lock) and a sense of helping us feel good about ourselves/nation .... or something.

Would redders have Zara Phillips up against a wall? Or, would minor royals avoid getting shot come the revolution.

He may well have her up against the wall. Whether or not she would be shot is another matter...:tired:

Looking at Rebecca Addlington, I don't think she needs any more than her medals. She looked pretty happy.

More likely over a car bonnet?

I was wondering, what is the monetary value of a gold medal? Say if, as an old athlete past their prime with the kitty getting empty and bills to pay you went down the local pawn shop / ebay - what would you get?
