Looks like a proper bike fit for me. Thanks all

Why not try adjusting your saddle position and cleats first before spending £150+ . Or ask the LBS to do it  Do you stretch properly after riding - it could just be muscles adjusting to new activity especially if you weren't so active before

I have knee arthritis that the surgeon would like to operate on, but that is unlikely to happen due to work commitment. I invested in a fit with Adrian Timmis not far from you. I would say it is the best money I have spent in 40++ year's of cycling. Wedges, moulded insoles and correct alingnment in all directions of the cleats has been a great help. It goes without saying the arthritis is still there, but I can cycle almost pain free.

I would say it is possible that you may also be increasing your milage so much so early.

Don't over-stress your body. You may want to train for longer distances but your muscular-skeletal system isn't ready for those kinds of stresses. The best form of exercise is little and often, shortish but good quality rides where you don't tire yourself so are able to train effectively. If you do long rides you risk damaging your joints and demotivating yourself because you will begin to associate cycling with pain and exhaustion. Aim to lose weight through careful eating and drinking and more daily activity.

Hi all, many thanks for all the advice. I had a bike fit on Tuesday and the guy raised the seat by just over one cm. my cleats are the yellow ones (floating) and seem fine. Going to take a week off at take it easy for a few weeks with no more than 20 miles at a time.

Thanks Again,

Andy

I got a new road bike around six months ago. Following advise I raised the saddle height by 5mm however I found on the following longer rides I was getting pain in my right knee. Since then I gave reset my saddle height (3mm less than that previously suggested) using the goniometer method and had no issues at all.
